The Importance Of Professional Excavation For A New Foundation

Excavation work generally means the work that is involved in the removal of soil or rock from a site using tools, machinery or explosives. Excavation work needs to be done before a new home can be built. More than likely the lot the house is to be built on must be cleared. An experienced excavation company will excavate your residential or commercial property and get it ready for the new home or business to be built. The property can be cleared of bushes, trees, roots, rocks and even old hardscapes and driveways. Our crew will clear your land and then we will compact the land for stability for a foundation and even dig the hole for the foundation.

When building a home or business the drainage is very important. Things like erosion from heavy rain or sloping land can be challenging. Working with a professional excavation company to be sure precision is used when excavating that property is very important, to prevent erosion. Creating drainage that will remove excess water often requires a well-trained crew that is qualified to perform this type of excavation to your lot. The water must flow in the right direction to protect your property from erosion and other problems.

There are a few reasons you want to invest in a professional company to excavate your property for your new foundation. A foundation can develop cracks in the wall or floor or other types of fractures. The foundation may settle or shrink or upheaval. Your building may end up with doors that stick or don’t open or close correctly or even gaps may form around your window frames. In some instances you may get sagging or uneven floors. We take these things into consideration and excavate your property professionally, keeping these things in mind.

Home Building Excavation

So, you have decided to build your dream home. Home building is a journey and the best way to ensure a smooth process is to hire qualified professionals. Just like you probably wouldn't do the home building yourself, don't do the excavation yourself either. Excavation is required before you can begin laying the foundation. Here are just some of the excavation services that you will need before the actual home building begins.

  • Survey the land. This works as a guide to follow through the excavation and construction process.
  • Drill a pump line. This removes water in the ground that could potentially flood into your work area.
  • Perform a soil test. The wrong type of soil can work against you and put your home's foundation at risk of shifting.
  • Clear out the land. This means removing things like stumps and trees that could get in the way of building your new home.
  • An excavation company can also level out your land for a much more functional outdoor space.
  • If you want a basement, it will need to be dug.
  • What about an in-ground swimming pool or man-made pond? A professional excavation company can assist you with that too.
  • Install weeping pipe. Weeping pipe is also called weeping tile or drain tile. It provides drainage for underground water (see below).

Knowledge, Tools, & Experience

Why should you hire a professional to do your excavation? Professionals have the knowledge, tools, and experience to get the job done right. Let's take a closer look at this. When it comes to excavating and clearing land, you can not just go in and wing it. You must have a plan. This is where knowledge is key. A professional has put in the time to learn and absorb all that is necessary to perform the excavation job correctly, safely, and in a timely manner. By hiring a professional, you can feel confident in knowing that they also have the correct, modern equipment to get the job done. This allows them to efficiently tackle even the largest, most challenging excavation jobs. Why else should you go pro when it comes to your next excavation job? A professional has experience. They have seen it all. They can complete jobs, big and small. They know how to access and handle any situation, including the type of soil they will be dealing with. Hiring someone who knows what they're doing is great - hiring someone who has gotten in there and gotten their hands dirty is even better!

Winter Maintenance & Planning For Spring

Now that winter is here you may be thinking that there is not much that you can do in terms of landscaping. You may know that A.R. Cail Landscaping can assist you with snow plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding but we also recommend that you not neglect the trees and plants that are growing in your yard. If you have shrubs and bushes, you may want to consider trimming them, also known as pruning. Pruning does more than just improve the look and shape of your plants. It also helps to keep them strong and healthy. Something else that you may want to consider is possible plants, fruits, and vegetables that you would like to grow during those warm weather months. Now is the time to harvest foods like kale, Brussels sprout, leek, and parsnip. Did you know that A.R. Cail Landscaping & Excavation can also do excavating during the winter? While it is not as common, we are happy to assist you with any of your excavating needs. If you're planning on laying foundation for a new home, if you suspect your driveway may need some repair, or if you would just like to improve the overall quality and look of your yard it's not too early to start making plans for the springtime.

Preparing For Winter

In order to prepare the lawn for winter most people will have the leaves and other debris removed. This helps to prevent the growth of moss as well as help your grass to grow long and healthy. Unfortunately for a lot of people, yard maintenance this time of year stops here. We recommend allowing us to spike and fill holes. For those of you who may not be familiar with this process, it allows for proper aeration as well as drainage. This is why we spike holes using a special tool called an aerator. We then fill the holes so that they do not close up. Another maintenance task which we perform is spreading a top-dressing over your lawn which is the distribution of a good, quality soil. We then will work the soil into your lawn preventing and treating common lawn issues. By top-dressing we improve drainage, improve low spots caused by rotting tree, level out hollows, and add nutrients to your lawn - just to name a few.
